Revision to Admission Arrangements

When we issued our admissions arrangements in October 2018 for opening in September 2019, we stated that we would have an admission number of 30 places for entry in year Reception, up to 15 for Year 1 and up to 15 for Year 2, for the first year of opening.  As of our application closing date of 14 January 2019, we have received more applications for places in Reception and Year 1, but only a very small number for Year 2.

As River Mill Primary school is a free school, the trust (Connect Schools Academy Trust) is its own admissions authority in the first year of opening. Due to the unusual small cohort of Year 2 pupils we have decided to vary our published admission number and will not be offering Year 2 places. We recognise that the Year 2 applicants will be disappointed with this decision, but it would not be in those children’s interest to operate a mixed class of Year 1 and Year 2 pupils because socially and educationally it will be very limiting for these children with no other older children within school and there will be limitation in their choice of friendship groups not only for this first year but potentially for the subsequent primary years. We have informed the Department for Education who are content that this pragmatic approach is in the best interests of providing a good or better education for all the pupils interested in a place at River Mill Primary School.

As it is our first year of opening and we are our own admissions authority, we will still be taking Year 1 applications until the offer day on 16 April 2019.

Application Form

You will see in our Policy that the school will process applications outside the normal local authority process for coordinating school offers. This means that, if you are applying for a Reception place, you will need to complete your Local Authority common application form for your other choices of school in addition to a separate application for this school.

The closing date for applications was 14th January 2019.   We will still accept applications for Reception, although these will be dealt with as late applications.   As it is our first year of opening and we are our own admissions authority, we will still be taking Year 1 applications until the offer day on 16 April 2019.
